Director of ICCR-DRR Participated The 1st Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction

23-24 August 2016, the 1st Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction was held at Bangkok. Prof. Saini Yang, the Director of ICCR-DRR participated the conference and made a presentation titled “Innovation in Earth Observation and Geo Spatial Data for Risk Profiling and Decision Making- Case Study in China” to the participants.

The 1st Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction provided an opportunity to generate a more dynamic and enduring interchange between science and policy, discussed the key issues, challenges, needs and opportunities in application of science in policy making and share good practice from the region, as well as the way forward for promotion of science-policy interface for evidence based DRR policy making in Asian countries.

The 1st Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction was organized by the Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute (HAII), a public organization under Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). They were supported by the UNISDR’s Asian Science Technology and Academia Advisory Group (ASTAAG), Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), Future Earth, a research initiative on global environment change and sustainability, and other scientific organizations and networks. A diverse range of senior practitioners, researchers and academics from the local, national, regional and international level participated the conference.
