Congratulations to the RETROFIT Project Team- Received the Certificate of Appreciation from National Reconstruction Authority, Government of Nepal

Key personnels of the RETROFIT project received the certificate of appreciation from National Reconstruction Authority, Government of Nepal for their conribution on conducting laboratory experimental tests of stone masonry building to support earthquake reconstruction in rural areas of Nepal.

On 21st August, 2017, Prof. Dr. Govind Raj Pokharel, Chief Executive Officer of National Reconstruction Authority, Government of Nepal awarded the certificate of appreciation to Prof. Ming Wang and Associate Prof. Kai Liu, Beijing Normal University, the PI and key personnel of the RETROFIT Project team. The certificate writes:

“In recognition of valuable contribution on conducting laboratory experimental tests of stone masonry building to support earthquake reconstruction in rural areas of Nepal through International Center for Collaborative Research on Disaster Risk Reduction (ICCR-DRR) project implemented in collaboration with Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University and National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET).”

Prof. Ming Wang and Associate Prof. Kai Liu were invited to the technic consultative session, co-organized by the National Reconstruction Authority-Nepal, Department of Urban Development and Building Construction-Nepal, Tribhuvan University and National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET), to share the retrofitting techniques for the stone masonry houses. Prof. Govind Raj Pokharel highly appreciated the project and awarded the certificate of appreciation in the session.

On 22-24 August, 2017, Prof. Ming Wang and Associate Prof. Kai Liu demonstrated the retrofitting techniques and trained the local technician in Dolakha, together with experts from Nepal and Bangladesh. A sharing session with the Mayor of Bhimeshwor and technician from the local Department of Reconstruction was organized in the meantime, shared the retrofitting technical and discussed the technology transfer and promotion afterwards.

The RETROFIT Project was sponsored by ICCR-DRR, as a part of the CBDM Asia Programme Phase II. It brings together the researchers, engineers and professionals from China, Nepal, Bangladesh and UK to develop better-built and retrofitting techniques for the stone masonry houses according to the principle of “effective, locally affordable and easy-to-implement”. This project aims to contribute to the post-disaster reconstruction of Nepal and fulfill the concept of “Build Back Better”.
