CBDM Asia Programme (Phase II) Summary Workshop of ICCR-DRR

The summary workshop of ICCR-DRR was recently held on March 21, 2018, in Beijing. Experts from the UK, Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, China, and representatives from DFID and UNDP China office joint together to review the projects achievements and share ideas on strengthen future cooperation and sustainable development of the center.

On March 21, 2018, the summary workshop of ICCR-DRR was recently held in Beijing. Experts from the UK, Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, China, and representatives from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China office joint together to review the projects achievements and share ideas on strengthen future cooperation and sustainable development of the center.

Ms. Vanessa Shade, the Development Secretary of DFID China, and Ms. Sujuan Zhang, the leader of Disaster Management Team of UNDP China gave the opening remarks. Ms. Shade highlighted the importance of scientific research in DRR and further expressed thanks to all researchers and implementation partners. “Research is the key part of ICCR-DRR”, Ms. Zhang said, adding that the cooperation among research institutes, government agencies and NGOs in DRR arena shall be sustained and further strengthened through the International Research Network established by ICCR-DRR.

Prof. Saini Yang, the Director of ICCR-DRR, summarized the outputs of the center. 2 collaborative researches, 13 ad-hoc researches, 2 rounds of young scholar exchange and several workshops and seminars were held during the CBDM Programme (Phase II) period, with over 40 publications delivered. 15 research PIs shared their key results, experience and lessons learned during the workshop, as well as some successful cases in networking. Prof. Bing Li, delivered the closing remarks, and emphasized the importance of long-term research and cooperation in DRR.

In the future, ICCR-DRR will continue to promote the collaborative research on DRR by sustaining a good partnership with networking partners. By actively seeking sustainable working mechanism, we hope to make long-term contributions to the disaster risk reduction.
